Passionate About the San Francisco-area
and the Moms Who Live Here

Dear Husband,

Wife embracing husband on beach at sunset

In Honor of Father’s Day, this is a letter for all the husbands and dads out there who may not always get the “thank you” that they deserve… Just know that while we often forget, we moms have a lot to be thankful for!

Dear Husband,

Thank you for rubbing my neck at night when you know I’m too tired to ask.

Thank you for silently cleaning up the kitchen while I manage bath time.

Thank you for making me laugh, when what I really want to do is cry.

Thank you for meeting my eye across the room when our kid does that adorable thing they do, for sharing in that moment with our secretly proud parent grin.

Thank you for fixing me dinner after a long day at work, even though I know you are exhausted too.

Thank you for being patient with me when I take my anger out at you, even though we both know I’m usually upset about something else.

Thank you for poking fun at me when I take myself too seriously.

Thank you for reassuring me, repeatedly, consistently, that everything is going to be all right, even when you aren’t always so sure yourself.

Thank you for knowing what I need, even when I don’t.

Thank you for loving my body just the way it is, even if that way has changed after having kids and will probably never be the same.

Thank you for celebrating in my successes and for being proud of me when I do something well, as if it were your own accomplishment, since we share everything together as one.

Thank you for standing with me in my defeats, my moments of weakness, of loss, carrying me through until I figure out how to get back on my own two feet again.

Thank you for being the best father I could have ever dreamed of for our kids. Thank you for loving them, and caring for them, and making them laugh like no one else can.

Thank you for helping me guide them, for teaching them, for appreciating them for who they are.

Thank you for taking care of me, in the many, many ways that you do, without being prompted, asked, or reminded.

Thank you for going grocery shopping when I. Just. Cant.

Thank you for knowing when I need dark chocolate, and serendipitously producing it from your secret stash.

Thank you for making holidays more special by getting just as excited as the kids.

Thank you for pretending to care when I detail my most recent friend drama or celeb update.

Thank you for encouraging me to be myself, even when that doesn’t always fit the mold or may not be the easiest path.

Thank you for making me a better person, for encouraging me to try new things, and to step outside my comfort zone.

Thank you for defending me when I have lost my voice.

Thank you for being my compass when I am lost.

Thank you for finding me funny and laughing at my jokes, even when no one else does.

Thank you for knowing what I’m thinking just from the look on my face.

Thank you for reminding me of why we fell in love in the first place, of our dreams and hopes for our family, and for helping make those dreams come true.

Thank you for understanding why I don’t always remember to tell you these things, for knowing that even if I don’t say it all the time you know how thankful I am for you.

Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads out there!
