Our Family Coalition – SF’s Local Resource for LGBTQ Families

One of the things I love most about working for San Francisco Moms Blog is the opportunity to share important information with other local moms. This city is full of wonderful ways for families to connect, but, sometimes, it’s hard to know where to look. Today, we’re highlighting Our Family Coalition which “advances equity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) families with children through support, education, and advocacy.”

They do this in many ways including offering regular classes, support groups, and meetups for LGBTQ families:

Toddle With Me – Weekly music and movement classes for LGBTQ+ families with toddlers 18-60 months. Using creative physical expression, these classes promote gross and fine motor skill development, coordination and balance, as well as early literacy, pre-math, and social-emotional skills. Held on Fridays 9am-10:15am at Community Well (78 Ocean Ave, SF).

Baby & Me – A 12-week class for LGBTQ+ parents and caregivers with infants 0-18 months. This parent-child interactive helps support parent-child bonding, infant health, and increases your know-how about your infant’s cognitive, physical, and language development. Includes a 4-week infant massage course, as well as other participation incentives! Held on Fridays 10:45am-12:00pm at Community Well (78 Ocean Ave, SF) through May 11, 2018.

Transgender & Gender Non-conforming Parent Support Group – Trans and gender-nonconforming parents, prospective parents, and co-parents connect and share what’s on their minds. From the workplace to trans activism, transition to temper tantrums, discuss whatever you’d like to in a safe space with friendly, supportive people. Lunch and child care provided with advance registration. Held the 3rd Saturday of every month, 12pm-2pm at Our Family Coalition (1385 Mission St, Ste 340, SF)

LGBTQ Family Night – Enjoy a meal with your kids and other LGBTQ families, then join one of two parent groups – for solo parents or for coparents / caregivers – for facilitated discussions about family and child-rearing issues. Dinner and childcare provided with advance registration. Held the 4th Tuesday of every month, 6-8pm at Children’s Day School (333 Dolores St, SF).

SF Queer Family Hike – Organized and led monthly by Lil and her adorable son, Quincy. Explore different hiking spots in SF each month with a fun group of LGBTQ families!

Support for Parents of Teens & Tweens: Do you have a teen or a tween? Our Family Coalition facilitates this monthly group for LGBTQ parents and guardians to talk, connect, decompress, and navigate together the experiences of raising kids aged 10-17 years. Dinner and child care provided with advance registration. Typically held the first Thursday of the month from 6-8pm at OFC (1385 Mission St, Ste 340, SF)
